It was PACKERS Mountaineering's 5th year anniversary, 2 groups, 2 mountains (Balingkilat and Bira bira)... 1 Cove. I chose to join the group heading to Balingkilat since I was very curious about the said mountain. It was during the time when a typhoon just left Zambales thus making our dayhike a wet one. The trek started around 3:00 am while rain was pouring hard. We reached the Kawayanan after an hour and got lucky the river crossing was safe. Falls since before reaching the Summit. Balingkilat is known for its assault and open trail thus direct exposure to Sun spices up the climb. I've read a lot of blogs describing how exhausting reaching the summit during Summer time. As seen from Cinco Picos before, Mt. Balingkilat is barren. I would not say we got lucky at that time for the following reason. 1. Balingkilat was a beauty at that time, Falls... yes Falls can be seen from the trail. 2. The Sun was mostly covered, the steep trail was slippery. 3. Water consumption was moderate due to a very cold weather. 4. Water source at the Camp Site 5. We got no clearing, sad Assault trail starts from Kawayanan all the way to camp site and no shade whatsoever. Though it was a dismay that we got no clearing, the traverse side was a great surprise. Your's Truly.... We got a call from the other group and we need to meet them at Bira-Bira junction, so we need to traverse via The Hunter's Trail. Our guide warned us about the difficulty of the trail and yes it was indeed difficult. Nagsasa Cove was on sight and hiking via this trail was Amazing... we got a perfect spot for a perfect shot of Nagsasa Cove. Hunter's trail is seldomly used by hikers/trekkers which makes the trail less visible. Okay, the Hunters trail is a Knife edge trail with no trees to cover you from the Sun nor a strong breeze as the wind blows. The Trail is also rocky and slippery when wet and very dangerous. The Hunter's Trail After the long trek, the team spent at least an hour and soaked ourselves at a river before heading to Nagsasa. 2 of 3One last river was crossed and we needed a rope to assist us since the current was too strong. The Cawag Trio I only have one wish, to reach Mt. Dayungan's Summit..... that would complete the Cawag Trio (Cinco Picos, Balingkilat and Dayungan) peaks within Zambales area. The Team Wanna be part of a team who's into Pro Adventure in Conquering and Keeping Environment thru Recreational Sport or simple wanna join us during our climb?
