Mt. Ulap is located in Barangay Ampucao, Itogon Benguet. The said mountain has been visited by several hikers as well as locals however the trail was officially launched by the municipality of Itogon last October 31, 2015.
Mt. Ulap has been documented as the highest peak among the seven peaks in Ampucao Ridge. The ridge is more popularly known as Philex Ridge, named after the biggest mining company in Itogon. To reach Ampucao, from Baguio a terminal is located in Lakandula St. (At the back of Jollibee - Magsaysay).
The jeepney needs to be full before leaving while the Terminal consists of other Jeepney routes to diffent barangays of Itogon, just ask or locate the Ampucao signage posted at the front of the Jeepney itself.
It took as 45 mins to reach the Junction (Jumpoff), thier were several hikers aboard on that jeepney and the driver was kind enough to drove us up to the barangay hall. Registration and Guide are mandatory on this mountain for safety, I was the 40th+ something hiker at that time. Restroom can be found at the second floor if you need to change and prep.
Registration Fee cost P 100.00 per adult and P 400.00 for Guide fee (Backtrail or Traverse). My Guide was Bhenjie (+639462518589), a Second year college student and a resident of Sta. Fe. Knowing he is from Sta. Fe, I was very complacent he knows the trail and will guide me safely.
The trail starts from the Highway and a 20 minutes full assault of a cemented path installed by a farm owner who lives a few meters ahead. The view for the first few minutes is not that spectacular however the feel of Mt. Ugo starts once you enter the Pine forest. As we enter the open space, the view was jaw dropping. It was breathetaking, no wonder this place is the newest hiking destination by many. Although the trail is very open, the cool breeze quench your thirst for shade. The View
Walking along the grassland is what I love about this mountain. The open field gives you the view of Mt. Sto Tomas, Dams and few other mountains along the Cordillera region.
The Traverse side will give you the view of Sta. Fe. The trail goes full decent and the soil are loose. There are burial caves too, so far there were 4 found. 1 cave contains 3 coffins, full intact and untouched thus taking pictures or opening the coffin is not permitted. To exit to Sta. Fe, hikers will need to cross at least 3 hanging bridges. Sacred Burial Grounds Mt. Ulap is one best hiking destination for beginners or professional hikers who wanted to have a "chill" hike few minutes away from Baguio city. RSS Feed
