Mapanuepe Lake is located in San Marcelino, Zambales.
The lake was created after Mt. Pinatubo's eruptions, causing the Mapanuepe River to overflow after lahar blocked the river's drainage.
The water flooded and swallowed Mapanuepe valley and its settlements. Today, only the steeple of Bajaoen Church protuding out of the River, the remnant of its past.
Despite its sad history, the place is perfect for family picnic, overnight camping.
