Masungi Rock A Back2Back "Mt. Irid - Mt. Tukduan Banoi" turned "Masungi Rock - Mt. Suso ng Dalaga" weekend adventure happened last July 7 - 8 due to NPA-AFP activity at Mt. Irid. As an alternate plan, Masungi Rock Formation specifically "Pinagpatong" did not failed us. Masungi Rock Formation offers a lot specially to people who loves outdoor adventures... from Rock Climbing to Spelunking. For our itinerary, we chose "Pinagpatong", Our guide actually chose this one because according to them, these 2 stone pillars were like huge bricks piled. "Pinagpatong patong na bato" where the name Pinagpatong was derived. First stop is to secure permit and guide for the said adventure. One has to visit Brgy. Cayumbay for the said permit and a courtesy call as well. From highway to Barangay Hall, a 30.00 per pax habal habal ride will take you there. Once secured, take another habal habal ride to Sitio Tablon, Jamboree for 50.00 pesos per pax. Sitio Tablon, Jamboree will serve as the jump off point. Packers @ Tower 1 Reaching the Rock towers will consume about an hour and a half depending on your pacing. The trek will start from a small "palayan" then to a rehabilitation area where seedlings-soon-to-be trees were planted then to a forested area. The covered area comprises of 50% Bamboo-Like shrubs (I forgot the name) 50% Trees. Reaching the Towers was not that easy, first our guide paved the way, crawled among the roots, fitted ourselves to a small opening and pulled ourselves up among the stone walls. Pretty adventure huh! wait there's more. The First tower was not that difficult to climb, balance and proper grip were much required. A Tree, very young one, is located near the boulder and one must climb this tree in order for him to reach the first gap. Once you get access to the gap, pull yourself up to secure a place then move up to the top most portion. The Second tower is just across, the topmost is flat as seen from the first tower. Reaching the second tower was the most daring part I ever did in my whole life. Using a nylon rope and latex covered gloves were our equipment for this wall-climb. The bottom part is covered with moss which makes it slippery, the middle part consist of rough edges wall and what makes this climb more difficult? the Gap between the middle part and the Upper portion. I really don't know how I made it but I would like to thank the people of Makiling Rock Group who taught me a lot during my rock climb training way back. I got the opportunity to climbed it first and as per our guide...we were the first Mountaineering Group to conquer the said Towers..... which makes me the First Mountaineer/Hiker.... yahoo!!!! From the top, you will see the Masungi Summit and 360 degree view of the area. Breathtaking...... indeed! * Additional photos from Sir Ryan and Sir John Jay
